RANI: Room for AlterNative Intelligence (2020) was a virtual curatorial space created in collaboration with Roshni Bhatia and Kiran Kumar as part of Jaaga’s CoLab Tech/Art Fellowship with Goethe Institut Bangalore. Where could children mess with deep machine learning? Where would indigenous technologies queer digital encounters? Across the disciplines of art, science, anthropology, philosophy and technology, we found countless examples of local, embodied and critical ways of knowing that rub up against globally and rationally dominant modes of knowledge production. We wanted provide a name and space for these counter currents in intelligence. Hosting artists and technologists from Mexico, Germany, India, the UK and Bangladesh, RANI was an online space dedicated to sharing research at the intersection of decolonial, artificial, queer, indigenous and youth intelligences.
